Buying Guide - Golf Hats
Let’s take a quick looks at all the information that you might need when you are deciding which golf hat to buy. Then hopefully you’ll agree that a nice bright flat cap is the way to go!
First of all let’s discuss why hats are so prevalent in golf. The obvious answer is that the visor helps keep the sun out of players’ eyes, and this is undoubtedly part of the answer. However the biggest reason is probably sponsorship; professional players get paid so much for the logos that go on their hats that they’d be crazy to go hat-less.
Despite not getting paid, lots of amateur golfers still choose to where a hat to protect them from the elements or just to look good. So let’s look at the different options that are available.
Baseball caps are probably the most popular hats for golf (and baseball). The peak keeps the sun or rain out of your face, they come in a variety of sizes or with an adjustable strap and they are the most popular choice of the pros which mean they must be good.
Then you’ve got visors; like baseball caps with a sunroof really. These are good if you have excellent hair and you don’t want to hide it under a hat.
During winter, or any time of year in Scotland, the woolly hat is another popular and sensible choice. The old adage of losing most of your body heat through your head isn’t scientifically true (see here) but it’s still no fun having cold ears, so best to get a nice warm beanie hat.
The most traditional golfing headwear is the flat cap. They aren’t as effective at displaying corporate logos, which is why most pros no-longer where them, but they are still very good at keeping you head warm, your eyes clear and your ‘look’ classy.
Our Royal & Awesome flat caps are a bit brighter than the norm and they are a great way to complete your awesome outfit. They also have poppers above each ear that allow you to adjust the size, so that they fit almost any head.
Happy hat wearing and remember to take off whichever hat you choose when you shake hands or go into the clubhouse. Manners cost nothing after all!
