Awesome colours at Fulwell help raise £10,000 for children's charity
Scotland’s funkiest clothing brand, Royal & Awesome, added some sparkle to the second Sparks Longest Golf Day Challenge, at Fulwell GC, Twickenham, which saw golfers raise more than £10,000 for the children’s medical research charity.
Almost 50 golfers endured four rounds of gruelling, dusk-to-dawn golf at the 111-year-old club, while wearing Royal & Awesome’s eye-catching outfits, to help fund pioneering research into children’s medical research.
The money raised during the 72-hole event will go towards supporting the one in 30 babies born in the UK with a condition that could affect them for life.
Sparks’ head of golf events, Dan Smith, said: “Despite the 4am start, the teams arrived in great spirits, which continued throughout the day, right up until the last putts were holed some 17 hours later!”
“The Royal & Awesome outfits looked fantastic and definitely played a big part in keeping morale high as fatigue set in towards the end of the challenge.”
Sean Whelan, club secretary at Fulwell, said: “We are delighted that Sparks chose Fulwell for the second year to host its Longest Golf Day Challenge. Sparks is an extremely worthwhile cause and an upstanding organisation we are proud to welcome back to our club.
“It’s been brilliant to see flashes of Royal & Awesome clothing worn up and down our fairways. The bold designs create a real buzz at the club and provide fantastic photo opportunities at these kinds of events.”
For golfers who missed the event at Fulwell, it’s not too late to help raise valuable funds – or look awesome.
The Sparks Awesome Endurance Challenge – playing as many holes of golf as you can in a day – may be completed at a golf club and a date of the participants’ choice, with Royal & Awesome rewarding each team, of two or more players, which raises a minimum of £400 for the charity, with a free pair of trousers for each team member.
What’s more, new for 2015, golfers can participate in the Sparks Awesome SpeedGolf Challenge – completing 18 holes as fast you can – which is taking place throughout the summer. Fronted by former World, European and Commonwealth Games champion Kriss Akabusi, all UK golf clubs are eligible to take part Royal & Awesome providing prizes for some of the country’s top performers.
